Home made deep learning

The world is our classroom but sometimes our home is our world. It needs to be a place where our children are welcome, and their passions are supported, and new and interesting things are available to them. In this way learning flows through the home.

When our children are welcomed into our homes, when they are unconditionally loved, when their personalities and abilities are embraced, when their choices are respected, when they feel physically and emotionally safe, deep learning is possible because they have the freedom to be themselves without fear.

As we make resources and equipment available to them and give them space and time to delve into topics that interest them and enable them to make their own connections between ideas, learning becomes embedded and we inadvertently strengthen their notion of self.

Creating a home that sparks interest through direct invitation to new things, or igniting curiosity by the placement of unusual objects, or simply creating a moment of connection enables rich learning to occur.
