Unschooling is a form of Home Educating. It is a whole life embracing approach to family living. It is a 24/7 investment. There is no ‘two hours of curriculum’ and ‘one hour of daily clubs’ and the educational boxes have been ticked and completed for the day. It requires constant adult presence and availability. It requires adults in the family to give.
We give from our resources: our time, our energy, our knowledge, our finances, our compassion. We swap old agendas for new ones when we chose to have children and choose to live respectfully with them. And we do choose.
We choose to take care of our children. We choose to feed them and house them and clothe them and take care of them because we chose to bring those children into our family. And we choose to love them.
To expect them to be grateful or thankful or forcefully made to help or made to feel bad via threats or martyrdom is akin to expecting anyone we invited into our house to do the same. Giving from a joyful heart creates a joyful environment. Children and guests are far more likely to respond favourably if the atmosphere is one of welcome and warmth.
Giving from our resources, however that may manifest itself, is an act of love. To do it willingly and joyfully manifests a peaceful home.
